In non-medical terms, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is mentioned as the test tube baby. The procedure involves selecting up the eggs from a woman and fertilizing them separate from the body with the male partner’s sperm, and replacing the resultant embryos into the female uterus. IVF treatment is a boon for many couples who are struggling with genetic or fertility problems. It may be the solution for both male and female infertility. In recent days, there has been an increased number of infertility cases where couples cannot conceive naturally due to various reasons, some of which are mostly unknown or unnoticed. If you are facing infertility, then you are alone, and it is better to take IVF treatment. By following the treatment of IVF, you can soon get a positive result.
In Vitro Fertilization which is commonly known as the IVF treatment, involves removing the eggs and sperms and compounding them in a special laboratory. If this process is successful, then the fertilized embryo will be implanted in the female’s uterus of the aspiring parent or the gestational surrogate mother. It is the most viable option for couples who are struggling with infertility due to medical issues or need to utilize the donor eggs or sperm to get conceived. It will also be extremely helpful for those who have genetic conditions or would like to freeze or hold their embryos for imminent pregnancy, and this method in IVF is known as Assisted Reproductive Technology.
Age will cause a diminished ovarian reserve, so the women who cannot produce enough and quality eggs should consider IVF treatment. More eggs are produced, and more embryos are developed by following this treatment, and thus, it will allow a higher birth rate cycle compared to other fertility treatments. If the woman is older, then the Genetic screening of the embryos will allow the pregnancy rates.
When there is no deceptive cause for infertility, if the woman is above 35 years of age, and the couple has failed to conceive using other types of fertility treatment, then IVF is the excellent choice. Many couples would like to use the IUI treatment because of its low cost when compared to IVF. Typically, the treatment of IUI is worked low than you require. However, IUI and other fertility treatments are less effective than IVF, and thus, couples who have tried other fertility treatments prefer to use the IVF treatment as the trusted one.
Men with unnatural semen analysis or who have taken the Vasectomy will desire to use the IVF treatment. While other types of infertility treatment are accessible, but nothing will as effective as the IVF treatment for treating moderate to severe male infertility cases. In IVF treatment, the recent invention of intracytoplasmic sperm injection has provided more successful results. It is also used for female-related infertility. This process will involve injecting the single sperm directly into the female’s egg to attain successful fertilization.
Advanced endometriosis will be associated with the presence of toxins in the pelvic secretion that surrounds the fallopian tube. Irrespective of whether you used fertility drugs, or you may utilize the other treatments like IUI, the eggs will inevitably become exposed to toxic pelvic secretions and enter the fallopian tube. Leaving these options will be unproductive in the treatment of endometriosis-related infertility. As a result, it is better to use IVF treatment other than different methods.
If the couples experience recurrent pregnancy loss or inability to conceive naturally due to the genetic abnormality may benefit from the preimplantation genetic diagnosis, which is one part of the IVF treatment. Further problems that can be addressed by PGD are congenital diseases like Tay-Sachs or cystic fibrosis.
IVF treatment becomes the choice of many couples if they have faced three or more intrauterine insemination and gonadotropin stimulated cycles. By following this IUI and GSC, you do not get a successful result in pregnancy where the ovulation was not successfully included. So, it is best to use the IVF treatment to get positive results within a short period.
Certain types of tubal ligation are reversible, and some are not working effectively. If too many tubes are damaged in the ligation process, the tube cannot be repaired. The women’s age and how many children they would like to have will make the sound decision to use the IVF treatment versus having surgery. If you are facing tubal ligation then you have to use the IVF treatment.
The cost and extensive nature of the immunotherapy, and the fact that some therapies must be replaced with a short amount of time, in that list, IVF is the favored method to achieve your pregnancy soon. The immunotherapy treatment can be prearranged early in the IVF cycle for maximum effectiveness.
Generally, the In Vitro means in the lab, and the fertilization refers to the conception. The IVF will involve taking many eggs, which are retrieved through the transvaginal ultrasound with the guided needle, and placing them in the petri dish with the specially washed sperm cells. If all goes well, one of your retrieved eggs will become fertilized by the sperm cells, and later, it will become the embryos. One or two of these healthy embryos will be transferred to the uterus later.
In some cases, you will need the extra sperm cells for the fertilizations process. The intracytoplasmic sperm injection may be used in this step which is an assisted reproductive technology that involves injecting a single sperm cell into an egg. It may be done if you severely have male infertility, previously cryopreserved eggs, PGT, or the past IVF treatment cycles are failed at the fertilizations stage. For conventional IVF, you need to have a lot of eggs, and injectable fertility drugs are used to stimulate the ovaries to the mature eggs for retrieval. But before the eggs can be retrieved, the ovaries must be stimulated, and without the help of a fertility drug, your body will produce typically one or two mature eggs each month.
Generally, you have more expectations in the IVF treatment because it makes you enjoy parenthood. The IVF process begins 4 to 6 weeks before egg retrieval in the hospital. Once fertilizations takes consign, the embryos are transferred approximately 3 to 5 days later. A step-by-step process of IVF entire cycle is explained below:
Step-1: Starting from the menstrual cycle, you will need to undergo daily injections and take ultrasound scans at regular intervals to monitor the growth of the follicles. The ovarian stimulation may also be achieved with the grouping of tablets and injections. Additionally, blood tests are also done to monitor your hormone level. The uterine lining will be taking place at the time of the ultrasound scan.
Step-2: When the follicles reach the correct size of 18 to 10mm, as seen on the ultrasound scan by the IVF specialist, a special IVF injection is given to you to mature the eggs.
Step-3: The egg retrieval is programmed 34 to 36 hours after the administration of the injection.
Step-4: On the day of oocyte retrieval, the partner or husband will need to give the semen sample. There will be a period of abstinence of two to three days before giving the sample. A semen sample is collected advanced if the partner is not present or in case of difficulties in producing the sample on the day of egg relocation. It will be analyzed and frozen for the use of IVF treatment.
Step -5: The semen sample is processed and placed in the Petri dish along with the retrieved eggs.
Step-6: After that, fertilization will occur, and embryo development will start.
Step-7: Embryos will be cultured in the lab for up to five days, depending on their quality.
Step-8: The embryo transfer may be done between the second or fourth day after the oocyte retrieval. The embryo transfer will occur on the fifth day of blastocysts, enhancing the chances of a pregnancy. Typically, two embryos are moved, but the IVF specialist will make them possible by elective single embryo transfer.
Step-9: After two weeks of embryo transfer, a blood test is done to confirm the pregnancy.
The IVF treatment will basically replicate your natural reproduction, and from the above steps, you can get possible changes to get pregnant. After completing all the above steps will help determine whether this procedure works for you to get a positive result.
